So while searching through some penny rolls we found this interesting 1985 penny. If you look closely at the back of the penny you can see that it was stamped over the memorial with the back of Lincolns head and partial word liberty. The front has a rectangular shapped stamp. Has anyone seen anything like this? I'm just getting started collecting and was wondering if it's worth saving or getting it looked at?

@MF, definitely a counter-stamp applied after this coin left the mint. Is there any design or lettering inside the rectangle on the front or is it just flat? Your pic is a little too dark to tell.

Certainly a counterstamp, but I can read it either.

Somebody put this cent on top of another cent and put a punch on it and gave the punch a hard whack.

See the YTR on the reverse?

It IS NOT a counter stamped coin. It was stamped by a punch of some sort, looks to be a stack of coins with the rim imprint on the obverse, just damaged.
