Hi Does anyone know if any foreign countries made pennies for the US from 1940-1960? I heard they did. Did some research and can't find a thing about it.

Definitely not since the US doesn't use pennies anymore.

Now CENTS, that's a different story, but I don't know.

I'm fairly certain the US has produced all of its own coinage at least since 1857 when the legal tender status of foreign coinage was formally revoked. The US shouldered the production burden of multiple Allied countries during WWII, and at least a dozen of our trade partners after.

Someone did say that Canada made some planchets for the US, and IIRC that started a firestorm on here!

Maybe someone can provide more info?

The US mint disagrees with you, Kanga. They list the Lincoln coin as " Lincoln Penny" in every product they sell that contains one.

The US supplied steel cent planchets for Belgium 2F coins in 1944. Perhaps you heard a confusion of this.

Quite certain no other country has produced coins (or paper money) for the US.

This site (and a few anecdotes on other forums) claims that the US Mint contracted to the RCM to produce the planchets (not the coins) for nickels and Sacagawea dollars in 1999 and 2000

@nfine, the Lincoln Cent says "1 cent" on it. It is beyond me why their publications do not agree with what they put on the coins.

To be fair, the nickel had never said "nickel" on it either.

Truth.

A cent is a penny if five cents is a nickel.

Nor did any of the classic gold pieces have "eagle" on them. No "Double Eagle", no "Quarter Eagle"... yet those names are still accepted.

No other country has ever struck coins for the US. The US has struck coins for other countries, and companies in other countries have supplied the US mint with planchets.
