Hello All, I have come across a quarter that I know to be a Standing Liberty quarter, but as I have no experience identifying coins, I thought I would ask for some help. Any assistance would be appreciated.

So....1st off, this is a type 2 coin, likely a pedestal or raised date, meaning 1917-1924. Likely 1917-S, 1918-S, 1919-S, 1920-S or 1924-S. It COULD be a 1923-S, but it is unlikely due to the low mintages. It's possible though.
Sadly, it is VERY unlikely you'll be able to narrow it down further than this. It's still a nice coin to own.

You could acid date it if you REALLY want to know but that would ruin the coin (and it might not even work if it's too worn).

I'm afraid that's about as close as you will get. If you have other questions with photos, we love to try to help.

Acid dating doesn't work on silver coins.

Quote: Acid dating doesn't work on silver coins. Correct. That's for nickel coins only.

and they are right about acid. Only for nickels and ruins the coins. I have never heard of any way to raise the dates on silver coins.

A felt-tip marker would get you that 23-S...

I've done it by leaving a drop of a mix of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide on the date before. But then again, the coins I used were not as worn as OP's, but the date was still pretty far gone. 1920-s: 1924: (it's easier to see the date in hand)

Benja has brought up this treatment before and his point is well taken.
