Of all of the U.S. colonial coins the Fugio or "Franklin" coppers are some of the most interesting to me. The Fugio design was designed by Ben Franklin himself. The obverse has the enigmatic "MIND YOUR BUSINESS" legend below the sundial and "FUGIO / 1787" denoting that Americans should be industrious with their time. On the reverse are 13 rings linked together representing the 13 colonies with the motto "WE ARE ONE" surrounded by "STATES UNITED" or "UNITED STATES". It is thought that the copper used to make these came from copper left over from Revolutionary war power kegs from France (the copper bands that went around the barrels). The history of these pieces is incredible. Read here: http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/Col...o.intro.html There are a number of super interesting Fugio varieties. Below is a number of Fugios I have been lucky enough to put together. Please share your Fugios!!!:)

Great Fugios Exoguy! Both with full FUGIO and date. The 7-T is sweet with almost full Roman numerals around the dial plus full States United & WE ARE ONE on the reverse. Very nice indeed. Thanks for sharing.
I know others out there have some. I wonder how many varieties we can get posted here on CCF?
Post em if ya got em!!!:))))

TJ thanks for posting this topic as I love fugios. As a newbee a few years ago I had never heard of a fugio but thanks to this forum saw one for the first time. I love old copper and wanted one but was concerned that I would be duped and buy a fake. So vermontensium offered to help me and I purchased this one a (19-ss). I'm so happy to have a fugio in my collection and grateful that Dave stepped up to help me.

I agree - they are beautiful! And that's without even starting to consider the history.
Not terribly likely I'd ever get one though (except maybe a cheap replica). I'll have to console myself with the 1841 large cent I bought back when my budget limitations were higher (these days I'd think a dozen times before buying a coin for $10, never mind $35).

Very nice fugio, I love the design of the coin. My dream coin is a continental dollar, I saw one at the FUN show from rare coin wholesale that was amazing and worth more than my house.

I just looked at ebay's offerings, I did not realize how expensive a readable coin was!

Got a vary crusty Fugio with very little detail for $26. Going to be awhile before I can afford a nicer one.

I've posted this one before but I'll throw her up again. It's one of my detecting finds, a scarce cross after date variety that got an AU details, environmental damage grade from NGC

Just got back and thought I would check in. Wow, you guys have some Fugios! Fuzzy, love your crusty version:) One of the many things I like about this type is that none exists that I don't appreciate. I like these however they come and I like that almost none are "perfect", all have character. I will mention though, an acetone bath may be a good idea. Cipster, nice 19-SS! URS-6 (17-32) aint shabby either! [quote]Got a vary crusty Fugio with very little detail for $26. Going to be awhile before I can afford a nicer one./quote] Post up a pic! I want to see a $26 Fugio, heck I want a $26 Fugio;) SCDave, is that a Newman 1-B variety? And you dug that up? I think I remember the post. Anyway, that is totally amazing! I would dig for Fugios all day long! Paralyse, that is one awesome O-14! Thanks for all your posts! I bet there are a few more out there. Most don't collect these by variety but only by type. No varieties repeated so far I don't think. Post em if ya got em!!! Lets see more Fugios!
