Obviously my name says it all but I just started collecting and I noticed the 4 on the date is strange looking. Any ideas or input?

Something like a flat tip screwdriver? Is damage, circulation hit is all. Please check the preview post before uploading, my neck hurts!

You'll want a second opinion, but I have a lot of wheat pennies that bear damage to the numbers. Often it looks a lot like this.

Unfortunately, it is only damage ( PMD). Something hit the area that Crazyb0 highlighted and flattened the numbers.

Keep searching!

Or damaged by a Coin Wrapping Machine. That is the area that this can get touched will the roll is crimped. But with just that one area affected, it might just be coin contact that flattened that device. Just damaged.

PMD. Something hit it. Not a mint error.
