Not sure I'm understanding the error? It's not a brockage... are they saying it was hammered between two obverse dies?
I certainly haven't seen one like this either. The reverse is off center, but it doesn't look like a die match to the other side.

I am not even sure how that would be possible,

But how are two obverse dies possibly combined in this manner?

It would not seem possible given the process used to strike coins, but somehow it happened.

The three coins have the same mintmester : Lucius Appuleius Saturninus . Maybe by error , an obverse die was token instead of a reverse die . On first sight , it looks the same dies .The CNG coin of 2016 is sold for $ 420 for an estimation of $ 500 .Not cheap , but very special .albert .

Can't be the same obverse dies... one side has LSA behind Roma, and the other seems to have a control mark, D or R on the two Bob posted. The style of the heads is also different on the first one from Bob.
Still a very special coin, but it was done intentionally. But... why?

He also minted at least a handful with incuse Roma bust reverses. Were these errors?
Search on "Lucius Appuleius Saturninus incuse" at acsearch.info and you'll see what I mean...

Crawford gives the coin with Roma as number 317/1 and with the quadriga coin with very few dies (1 : 10 and 14)(2 : 10 and 12 ) with a control mark on the reverse . The normal coin Cr317/2 in two variants has 370 and 462 dies . So the error has been made by the die-cutter , but is such an error possible ? albert
