I'm sitting in a McDonald's finally catching up viewing these magnificent coins. I'm one of those people who have had no power since last Friday. I have some of my own to show once I get power back. Cheers!

Usually us Minnesota folks are envious of other areas winters. Not so this year (or last couple, actually).

Hope your power is alive soon. Feel free to post as many coins to date as you like. We never mind yummy commems.

I would have been so bummed if JBuck didn't contribute Ike.

Mrs Eisenhower .... your son Ike ... is special ...

------------------------------------------------------
There are lots of places where the 1990 Ike dollar can
show up in your collection ...

The can fill empty holes at the end of your Ike Dansco

I wrote in my ongoing CCF thread on these circulated coins about the 6 type set examples that I considered to be 'stoppers' for anyone attempting the series in honestly circulated state.

The six circulated 'stoppers' are coins so rare in the marketplace that they might never be found ... at a minimum they require years (decades) of dedicated searching.

This Elgin half is one of the stoppers ... and in my 10 +- years of searching is the only one I have ever seen ... and was actually found for me at a show by CCF member commems ...

1936 Elgin (Illinois) Centennial Half Dollar - PCGS G04

Can-We-Post-A-Complete-Commemorative-Collection?

Easily the current PCGS Pop 1/0 lowball ... and the rarest circulated example in my set. It's not however my personal favorite in the circulated set ... that coin is still to come.

Enjoy

Thanks to everyone who has made this thread an absolute thrill to read and enjoy. So many modern commems that I've never taken the time to review, and I think I may try for a set of those after my Type set is complete (or as good as it can get).

My Elgin:

I want to like the Elgin piece but so many I've seen are very flat -- I'd love to see more details in the hat/hair on the obverse in particular. What's the grade on yours, Beefer518? Even moxking's looks less sharp, at least in the first image.

Mine came back from ANACS as a 63. But, I think the way you see it above it would have been a 64, but I'm 99% sure I put a scratch on Elgin's face when I was busting it out of a basement slab to submit.

Could be the lighting, but I like that 63/64 better than the 66 (although the 66 seems to have better luster). Maybe one of these days...

I appreciate that kind feedback Coinfrog ... my objective of contributing only the honestly circulated examples in this thread is to simply raise awareness that such a collecting possibility exists ... perhaps someone might be inspired to travel the same path ... perhaps not ... but the record should show such possibility.

Could show my PCGS MS66/CAC Elgin today ... but choose not to. Interested parties can find photos of that elsewhere here at the CCF.

To the circulated Elgin ... this is a truly rare coin in PCGS certified circulated state. My standard for the set to be 'circulated' is XF45 or lower ... and as such the PCGS population report has 3 ... yes 3 ... examples:

VF30, VG08 and G04.

The owner of the VG08 example is not known to the small community of friends who pursue this collecting passion.

More honestly circulated examples to come as the days pass by.

I suppose that owners of circulated classic commems might not instinctively want to have them graded. I know I probably wouldn't.
