Hi everyone, I got these two cash coins from ebay (always suspect, I know), and I'm having trouble distinguishing between these two. One is significantly larger than the other, which I know could mean differences in denomination, but the only denomination reference I'm finding, from the Jen book, talks about an incredibly rare 2 cash coin listed at $3500 in VG condition. Any ideas? Maybe just a mint difference?

Pictures aren't the best, I know, but it's the clearest I could get them to come out with my phone's camera.

The key difference is that they are cast in different provinces. But before that, are they even genuine to start off with?

gxseries, that's always my concern when buying these on ebay...it's hard to imagine why someone would even bother faking these, when they often sell for 20 cents or so, but what do I know. I once got a lot of supposed cash coins that had green "corrosion" actually painted on, very obviously. I complained to the seller and they then blocked me from bidding on any other of their auctions. I just don't know where to even begin to detect fakes though, so I'll just enjoy the coins I get and hope for the best. If they're fakes, I'm out 20 cents.

I vote non genuine for both of them. I guess it's best not to buy anything even though it might be a real cheap bargain.

Counterfeiters will counterfeit anything - I have a counterfeit Chinese 1 yuan coin which at that time was a face value of 12 US cents.

The left is Yunnan, the right is Hangzhou (H 22.188). Hartill says the weight decreased in 1834, but that doesn't help here as he doesn't list smaller coins for Hangzhou.

The tong on the Yunnan doesn't look correct. The marks on the left of the right character should be separate, not included in the body. And, ignoring that, the only square-head tong shown by Hartill has vertical left dots, not horizontal.
