Good day everyone, I'm interested in collecting the gold bezants that we're struck in imitation of the Islamic coinage of the time. I curious: does anyone see anything wrong with the coin in this link? I'd love to know a weight, and the edge looks a little iffy... thoughts? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Crusader-S...AOSww85aedhc

Is there anything specifically shouting fake to you? I emailed the link to Allen Berman, who knows crusaders quite well, and he mentioned that his gut was that it's real... this is s toughie!

It doesn't jump out as fake to me at all, would love to see why you think this piece is fake?

Thanks Jdmern, it's not so much that it jumped out as being fake to me, as I was just being a skeptical ebay coin buyer... I thought that the "calligraphy" looked a little thick, and the rim almost looked raised. I'm pretty new to this type, which was why I figured I'd post here to get other opinions. I appreciate your reply!

NO returns and where does it say Guarantee of Authenticity? I'D STAY AWAY Do a lot of research on what you want to collect first. Then buy and bid with confidence. If I could have only followed my own advice when I got started.

Don't my area of collecting, but from what I've seem of genuine examples I see nothing that would indicate this is a fake. Looks like a nice genuine example to me.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Travelcoin: I do have the book on crusader coins, and have done some reasearch, I just never get to the point where I feel like I have quite enough knowledge. Echizento: thanks for your opinion, I appreciate it!

Well He said this coin below was "possibly real" and to send it to PCGS so.. It seems unlikely that he is an expert on these..

Thanks again everyone for the responses. Echizento, I found a similar example of the one on ebay listed on page 163 of the book you linked. What a great resource. If you have a chance to try and match them up, I'd love to hear what you'd have to say. Arnoldoe, I can't say I know anything about that coin you posted. Is it an obvious forgery? Does it have a connection to crusader pieces that I'm missing?

The coin looks a close match to style and detail of the second coin in the book. I still say the coin is genuine.
