Feel free to move if this is posted in the wrong area.

I received a Heritage catalog in the mail this week for the upcoming Long Beach show, and it was nearly 600 pages. Absolutely massive. Is this typical of their big auctions? What do the community members usually do with these, save them for future reference?

I don't get the Heritage catalogs, but I do get a few others. I stopped saving them years ago so they go right in the recycling bin when I'm done drooling over the pics.

If the catalog has a particularly nice collection of the coins and/or medals I collect, I keep the catalog in my library and use it for future research/reference. If there's nothing of special interest, I either bring to my local coin club and offer it to others or bring it to my club's annual coin show and put it out for others to take.

Some catalogs offer a wealth of information about the coins being auctioned and are great educational resources.

Unless the sale contains a high end specific collection, such as a huge set of a particular type or genre, they are not worth saving.

Yes - Heritage usually has 8-10 monster sales per year.

In MANY cases you can buy there, even with the 20% vig, for less than on ebay.

I get these as well. Last month, I got so many for FUN, that they sent me a box. My conclusion on what's the best thing to do with them? Read them. Seriously. Browse through them to see if there's anything you may want or need. I've surprised myself this way a few times.

Otherwise, all that printing expense will just be wasted. After the auction, I toss them.
