When dies begin to "spider-crack", it is the beginning of the end, heading towards a catastrophic die collapse. Note how all these are terminated at the rim. Now let's think in reverse. The diagram below shows the face of a die and the crack on the die face. It hasn't gone deep into the die, to the very edge yet. It will, it first goes down, into the core and across the rim offset area. Once the cracks unite across the die, it falls apart, drastically.
