Quote: View all seller's items and sort price highest to lowest. Wow. Pages of 5-6 figure items, and from a quick sampling, all priced double what PCGS price guide says. As I've said on here probably over a hundred times.... this is just the ebay version of "Make me an offer." ebay requires you to put in a BIN price when you want offers so sellers put in one that no one will pay so they can collect offers for a while. Completely legitimate and effective practice employed by thousands of sellers big and small. Nothing unscrupulous about it at all.

If you look at the ebay listings for the highest asking prices, it is obviously plainly something of a gimmick/ advertising. I noticed a Canadian $5 gold asking 300 times the trend price. What a better way to get people to look at your ebay shop? Will it help though? Good question. How seriously would you take the other listings if one is a gimmick? Of course nobody would ever buy a $7,000,000 item on ebay. Buying something like that sight unseen, from an unknown party? How would you pay, even if you could? Send a $7,000,00 check and wait for the thing to show up in your mailbox? Transfer $7 million by paypal? Oh dear, I never got it-could I have my money back please? The most expensive coin listed as actually sold is $84,000 Can for an aureus of Galba.

Heritage sells expensive coins on ebay. They don't sound like used car salesmen. Deal with them. Not this guy.

You guys are being silly. He has PERFECT feedback and has likely been using the best offer model for years. But if you want, continue to disparage what you don't understand.

I guess that to use ebay for advertising (marketing / price research?) is OK, provided that you pay ebay fees. Morally you should pay a fee, if you take advantage of the service offered.

Quote: Nothing unscrupulous about it at all. I in no way intended to accuse the seller of being unscrupulous, merely pointing out in reference to the ~$7,000,000 coin that they have a large number of big ticket items and seem to be shooting for the moon on many of them. If it works for them as a pricing strategy, go for it. They have another >million dollar item and several in the hundreds of thousands, so it appears that they indeed expect buyers to process amounts in that range through ebay. But who knows.

Here's my take on this guy. The seller most likely doesn't own ANY of the coins he's offering on ebay... what he does is list coins that other dealers own and are actually advertising on their websites at a lower price. He jacks his price up, so if you do purchase from him, he'll purchase the coin from the dealer, then turn around and ship it to the actual buyer. He's been doing this for several years now... ET

He also seems to think this is a 1795 off center variety dollar. it is not. This is the centered variety.

ebay is actually a good place to sell high value items as final value fees cap out at $750 while an auction commission does not.

Bingo! super high price can also used to sell other items seller is offering since many of us sort search results by "highest to lowest" price and one would tend to look at $7,000,000 coin advertised. It's a fishing scheme.
