Well, I was targeting AU for this issue but this one really caught my eye. Not on ebay but from a coin shop (online photos). I emailed the shop to ask for better photos, at least of the mm area as I can't even discern the "D" amongst that toning. Also asked if they knew anything of its history. Do folks think this is the kind if toning resulting from the whitman folders?

For this issue, a weak strike is common...this one looks better.

Thoughts on the toning, etc are welcome.

Not much luster for an AU coin.

I kinda think the toning is caused by residue left over from a poor rinse after a long ago dip.

I'm not sure. I see a fingerprint to the left of Liberty. I suppose the toning could have come from a folder.

The pics are kind of "wrong in all the right ways" to not be able to see much.

The coin probably is darker than it is from these images, I would look for some other ones instead, unless its a good price.

That coin looks to be hiding a host of problems. I would seek a different example unless the price is that of like a VF.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm a litle skeptical of the super shiny high points, does seem to point to a dip or polishing. Didn't know toning could result from post-dip residue, good to know.

Too bad these guys can't post more natural photos, but this coin looks like a dip and I don't think the strike is as strong (as the toned specimen), though it is a higher grade...is getting a bit of interest: 352283749297

Appears the coin has been cleaned but nice looking none the less. with above and the fingerprint, less than desirable but I do like the toning. I think you have a strong shot at AU
Rest in Peace

Obverse is nice ,I would call that natural toning . But the reverse is a problem , can't make out the MM if any ,no eye appeal for reverse .

I'd pass too, fingerprint is distracting, and the reverse toning looks post cleaning.

Too many distracting issues. I'd keep looking.

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna keep looking unless additional photos from this seller convince me otherwise.

This seems to be a harder date in AUish grade...and if this wasn't such a challenge, it wouldn't be nearly as much fun to find a really good specimen!!
