Want To Share With You My Lincoln Penny Collection (And More Others Later)

I really should share my own US coins. Most of them are locked up in my 7070 though...

BTW, @Susuman - what happened to that nickel you bought? You don't appear to have posted it anywhere...

@Susuman, currently up to 23 holes filled: LWC, LMC, 2 cent piece, V nickel with CENTS, both types of Buffalo nickels, War Nickel, silver Roosevelt dime, Barber quarter, both Standing Liberty quarters, both Washington quarters, Walker half, Franklin half, both Kennedy halves, Morgan dollar, Ike dollar, bicentennial quarter and dollar, SBA dollar, and State Quarter.

There are a few other coins I could add; some have been misplaced for the last few months (or years), and in some (mostly modern) cases I'm not sure how to select the example.

Provenance: LWC and Ike ex @jeffrose (but I did buy some lesser quality wheats), 2 cent ex Secret Santa (forgot the gifter's name), type 2 SLQ ex you ( SBA maybe too, I forgot).
The Morgan was sent to me last year by a CCF member, again, I forgot the name. The silver Washington was a CCF contest prize a few months ago. I have no idea where the clad Kennedy is from (possibly my father's collection).
I've never bought a State Quarter, but I did get several State Quarter lots (including, IIRC, one full 50 state set) from assorted friends and relatives, so I'm not sure which particular lot this one is from.
The LMC and silver Roosevelt were bought in Kaliningrad; so might have been the silver Kennedy, don't really recall. Rest are from various Moscow shops and markets (but some of the pieces I could add to it weren't).

I bought this 1923-S Peace dollar for 800 rubles at an antique shop. In retrospect, this might have been a bit overpriced; if that's any consolation, it was labeled 1921, and I didn't discover the actual date until after buying it.
(I didn't discover the S mintmark until a year later. Can you see it too? It's about 8 o'clock on the second photo.)

Admittedly, the 800 ruble price came out to under spot on the day I bought the darn thing... April 27, 2011.
Wasn't quite the case on almost any other day... at least, until December 2014, when the exchange rate went way up. Not quite true today either - but pretty darn close!

This will probably go into my 7070 the moment I find it... hopefully this year. I swear I've seen it recently.
Fun fact: until I got the Morgan in 2017, this was my only US silver dollar.



Perhaps the jewel of my collection, this large cent was bought at the same antique shop as the above - for 1000 rubles (~$35 at the time).

There are some rim bumps, which are hard to see on the photos. I suspect that a TPG would have graded it something along the lines of "VF details". Still not exactly an easy to find type... in Moscow coin shops, anyway.

I have another large cent, ex nice CCF member, which is destined for my 7070... when I actually find the darn thing. Hadn't seen it since at least 2015, if not earlier.



This little group photo from January 2014, and the CCF thread that came with it, are the only evidence I have of buying this V nickel. Can you guess the date?

I hadn't seen the coin itself since 2015 or so; or, at least, I wasn't able to find it for my first CCF anniversary contest in 2016 - go participate in it, by the way, it's technically still going on, just inactive as ch*rp - and hadn't seen it anywhere after that either.

I sure know where the LRBs from that pic are though! (...I think. But I've definitely seen them this year.) Really should go and photograph them individually.



This coin - the one in this batch that is in my 7070 - is a nice example of buying from places that don't know what they have.

Yes, it's an 1901-O Barber quarter. Yes, I'm pretty sure that's a semi-key date. Yes, that's damage on the L in DOLLAR. No, it's not actually purple, that's an artifact of how I photographed it.
I also paid 200 rubles for it. And that was in 2017, so 200 rubles means about $3.5 (or just barely over spot).



I know there's not much to look at. I knew that when I bought it. It only cost 50 rubles though... well, 100 with shipping.
Yes, shipping. You are looking at the only coin I ever purchased online so far.

I have it listed on Numista as 1823, because this is the date I thought I saw on it.
I doubt that this is its actual date, though, so most of my other records say something along the lines of "dateless 1816-36".


Also that Meshok place... darn. I'm looking at a harshly cleaned dateless Classic Head cent (similar in condition to the Matron Head above... OK, better on peripheral devices, though I think it's still dateless), and seriously wondering if I should ask my mother to give me the $8 (OK, $10 with shipping) I'd need to pay for it.
Because this might well be my only chance to get this type anytime soon (even there, I suspect).

This coin appeared from one of the junk coins bags from Europe. Baku or Moscow or any other city, doesn't matter where you can find such valuable coins for a few bucks - most people in Russia don't aware of true value of US coins, especially rare years like this. I bought 1912s penny showed before the same way, but only in the internet. No one needs and no one knows.

The correct term for a Lincoln 1c is cent. However, people still call it "penny" as the British penny circulated many years ago in the US.

Pre 1980 proofs are hard to find in best condition.
