Thanks @JimmyD. That is the one of the site I looked at and while they have it listed when it shows doubling on the 1979 it also shows N/A. Interesting coin nonetheless!

The N/A just means a photo was not available.

@JimmyD, the leaf is also doubled. I apologize for not stating that earlier.

i picked up 300 mint rolls of 79 pennies from the bank a while back and opened a handful of rolls and found a whole bunch of different varieties including a few of the ones like yours, a lot must of happened at the mint that year cause there are a lot of different varieties to look for

I picked up 25 rolls years back at a buck a roll I found several varieties I saved all the MS-66 and higher I got one MS-67, I'd guess 15-16 MS-66 with different DP dates 6-7 one clip coins a struck through and a wrong planchet out of the rolls. A very good year to search good luck and congrats on your find

This is Die Deterioration Doubling, and the doubling on the entire date is uncommon. I searched a lot of 1979 rolls before finding one doubled enough that ICCS would agree with me.... I don't have a closeup of the date... but here is the coin.

Thanks for all of the replies so I am assuming @SPP-Ottawa that my coin is uncommon!

Hi A couple of firsts here. Inspired by this forum, I searched through a bucket of pennies that I had and found a 1979 variety... It is not the full doubled date variety but the "979" is doubled. It also has the obverse variety where the Queen has a double chin on the same coin. Given this jumped out of only 50-60 1979 pennies, I have to imagine that these varieties are fairly common. This is also my first attempt at both taking and posting photos of coins... It isn't as easy as a beach-side family snap shot. Any critique is welcome.

Thanks everyone for all of the GREAT comments. I do believe I will put this cent in a 2x2 and enjoy it! Definitely not a spender!

I contacted a gentleman at CoinsandCanada and asked if they would like pictures of this cent since they do not have one on file. Pictures of this coin have been sent! Again, thank you all for your insight on this thread.
