Looking at the following Website

http://www.learcapital.com/qry/stor...a3daf40eeec5

Why is the 1oz American Gold Eagle more than the 1oz Gold Krugerrand

Its like a $18 an oz difference?
This website is realtime and the price changes as the market changes.... Can someone please tell me the difference in the two..

Thanks

Eagles are more popular than Krugerrands and carry a premium because of the greater demand. It is the same amount of gold.

It's my understanding that it's because of about market demand. For some reason people have always been willing to pay slightly more for Eagles than they will for Kruggerands.

I can only speculate, but it is likely a simple example of the law of supply and demand. More people want American Gold Eagles than want krugerands; thus the premium. You'll note that the Canadian Maple Leaf is slightly lower than the Eagle.

My Dealer even pays a premium over spot for eagles... He usually buys for $5 over and sells for $25 over

I had heard that the Gold Eagles can be purchased through retirement accounts (IRA, ROTH etc.) and other gold coins cannpt be purchased and still receive all of the tax advantages. That is why the price is a little higher, becuase the demand from these retirement accounts drives it up a bit.
