Every walk into a Antique or Collector Shop and something catches your eye? I muddled around in there for 30 minutes and couldn't stand it anymore. Can I see that brown coin? What the heck is it? Didn't matter, once it came out of the case, it wasn't going back! Finalyy I asked what was the price,,,,,$49.00,,,,,SOLD!
Can anyone shed some light on this coin. I am such a newbie with these older coins, especially cents.

I know my lighting sucks. The cent is dark chocolate brown around the exterior and copper tone on Liberty. It doesn't appear to be whizzed at 10X. Is this coloring typical in this type coin? Thank you for any critiques you guys have. nlp

I added some extra lighting. Tried two halogen goose neck lamps from Office Depot to give it a try.

After a month of sunbathing and DAGO nose oil this puppy is coming right along. New pics:::

Except for the weird lighting on the obverse (if it really DOES look like that, then this isn't natural coloring), it looks pretty natural. But..you really got a great bargain.

If it actually looks like that I'm sorry to say that it has been stripped and badly recolored.

I think you got a great coin for the price you paid. The details are definitely a higher grade but Conder101 has a great point:

"it actually looks like that I'm sorry to say that it has been stripped and badly recolored."

From the pictures it is tough to tell but personally I think that it was heavier stained somehow and then someone decided to try and clean it and scraped up the front. When they noticed the mistake they made, they then tried to make up for it and it does appear to be a bad coloring job.
