I have a more updated pic of my toned N.Carolina quarter.

I have to say the toning looks good in the historical context of the reverse--it imparts a sense of time.

madzdad, go in a dark room like the laundry room, lay the coin on a white sheet of printer paper, use macro focus (the flower icon on your camera) and take the photo from about 3" away with flash, this is the best way that I have found to really show toning... see attached photo...

The Coin has a copper tone to it, like it was dipped, or chemically treated. What you are seeing, is what it looks like.

Hard for me to see toning as much as I see damage and corrosion.

If you tumble copper and clad coins together after metal detecting the clad turns pink. Just throwing this out as an F.Y.I. Most of the pics here throw me off as to what I'm looking at.
