Figure after all the fuss I give about WWII coins the least I can do is share a few of my recent acquisitions. Edited by GO 06/03/2008 12:36 am

Ah, Modern WW2 COMMEMORATIVES! I opened the thread expecting a couple of zinc or Nickel-plated Iron/Iron Groszy coins. For those how don't know what I'm talking about, when Germany occupied Poland, the 1 Grosz (1939), 5 Groszy (1939 - Holed like the RKK 5Rpf), 10 Groszy (1923) and 20 Groszy (1923), minted across 1939-1944, despite the dates on the coins, and the 50 Groszy (1938 - in both Nickel-plated Iron and Iron) were the ONLY coins issued during the occupation. All other denominations were taken care of in notes...
Also used in Poland for a short time, were the Reichskreditkassen 5 Reichspfennig and 10 Reichspfennig.

I got a 10 and a 20 groszy coin 1923. Is there a way to make the difference between those minted in '23 and those minted by the Germans?

Grace, cool... then I hope people have told you about the 2005 Australian WW2 commemoration types, in 20c, 50c and $1...
Stratocaster - Yes... the 1923 minted BEFORE German Occupation are in Nickel, while the ones minted under German occupation are Zink... :)

I mean Zinc. Sorry, when one's head spends too long in German Books and Documents, one occationally begins to write the odd word like them!

You got the Zinc ones? Nice. The zinc ones are worth a little bit more than the Nickel ones; that said, the Nickel ones are commonly found in 'Assorted World Coins' for 10-20c each! The zinc ones (technically grouped with German Third Reich coins by a lot of people - except Krause!) are getting harder to find in good condition too, so if yours are cancer-free, i'd recommend trying to keep them that way.
Yes, I am a bit of a purist when it comes to Third Reich mintings, so I just like to know those coins are being treated well!
My occpation collection still lacks a Zinc 10 Groszy.

The 10 groszy is in quite a good shape. The 20 groszy is covered in a black corrosion, I suppose that's what you call cancer. Is there a way to prevent it? Thanks for the info.

Black? Hmmm normally when Zinc goes off, you get a white sort of powdery appearance on the surface... Not sure what the 'black corrosion' is all about... pics?
