This 1990 Lincoln Cent has a very odd shaped 0 on the date. The 199 on the date are normal sized while the 0 is very thin. If it took a hit then it took it in two different directions at the same time. Need a little insight as to how this could have happened?

I see a slight MAD. The zero might be a DDD or a mild Greaser.

You're probably right CoinFrog, still kind of a neat cent.

A Grease Fill & coin damage on a coin enlarge the devices on a coin The Grease Fill prevents the lowest part of the die will prevent the tops of the narrow part of a device to be formed. A coin that is damaged will make the highest part of the devices to be altered by contact or flattening. But for a device to be reduced, then the field would have to be altered to reduce the wider parts to the lower design to be removed. You coin shows altered devices from a contact mark and also reduction of size from die abrasion. So the coin is altered two ways, but neither give it a premium. Also the die that struck your coin was also showing Die Deterioration also on the coin you found. So three events happened on your coin, but still no premium. More of an educational coin that show what can and does happen before/after coins are struck.

Thank you Mr. Coop for your explanation and for the numerous lessons that I have learned from you and others. Grease was a thought for me because I have seen that on numerous and occasionally a single device.

Huh? Looks to me like the 0 took a hit from top to bottom of the loops causeing the flatness.
