Just purchased these two 1 Denaro coins from the Papal States of Ancona 1250-1348. They are slightly different, dates and dies possibly, a lot of years produced. Second is better of the two.

(Gee, they were around even then taking your money! Er, oops, that's 'PayPal', sorry...)

Nice acquisition!
In that period, Ancona was an independent city and hadn't yet been gobbled up by those voracious popes!

Very nice acquisitions @crazyb0! On the obv (with the cross), the inscription should read "+.DE.ANCONA." while the rev inscription should read "+.PP.A.QVIRI.A." on the periphery and CVS in the center. With the last letter A placed in between pellets, I would attribute both of these coins to Biaggi 42, and date them from the middle of the 13th Century to the middle/end of the 14th Century.

These are relatively easy to get your hand on, but your examples are particularly nice. I know that Albert has posted his previously http://goccf.com/t/281259#2389231), but I haven't had a chance to post mine.

Edit: Also, @crazyb0, could you maybe update the title of this thread to better reflect the nature of these coins? It helps a ton when folks (like me) are using the search functionality of CCF. Thx!

For what it's worth ... the outer obverse legend, PP S QVIRI A refers to San Quirico (Quiriacus in Latin?), the patron saint of Ancona.
