Was going through some nickels and came across this one.

Looks to me like there is a problem with the planchet, what do you think?

It looks like polishing marks to me. Maybe some roller lines too.

Or even a bad mix. The coin is 75% copper and 25% nickel. So there maybe something else affecting this coin. There might be a contaminate on the coin? Note how where it should have worn off, it didn't or it has been in storage so long it is toning. Tough call from the images provided.

That 1940 S Wartime Nickel looks great for how old it is. Definitely a nice find and a keeper.

Not a " War Nickel", we weren't in WW2 yet, nor was it 35% silver til last part of 1942, and then only Philly and San Francisco made 'em.
