I found a penny that looks like the Presidential dollars . Is it possible for a penny to slip into that coating process by accident?

As explained previously, numerous times, the blanks are cut from zinc plate stock, then electroplated with copper. This is different than a cladding like on dimes and other clad coins(edge shows). The copper plating solution will gain zinc from the blanks, more zinc in there makes brass, that gold tone. Just a quality control failure to replace/condition the plating solution.

Then again, future rocket scientists and garage imps will mimic the thousands of DIY YouTube videos on how to plate your own coins
