Odd-Looking-1912-Barber-Dime

How do you think my coin came about looking like this? It's raised on both sides. On the front the face isn't a side view and the back doesn't have "one dime" stamped on it. Nobody I've shown it to can tell me anything about it.

Thank you for looking

Looks like someone used a sharp tool to damage the surface. It has no numismatic value.

@berness, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @SD2017 that someone changed the portrait either by repoussage or chasing 9in focus pics would help to determine the specific method). We see this some with so-called "hobo nickels". I have not seen a hobo dime before, but perhaps others here have. I suppose that there is no way of knowing when exactly this was done. Worth saving in a 2x2 for sure.

Thank you for the replies and the welcome. What's "hobo" and why would one want to damage this like that?

"Repousse" was the first word that popped into my head. It is an altered coin on which someone added their own artwork.

Started out as a 1912 Barber dime, someone made a push out, or "Repousse" coin out of it. Then somebody crushed it.
