Hello! I am a new member and I would appreciate your advise. I just started going through coins and found something that may be worth something. Can you please let me know your thoughts? I believe there is a die crack under the buffalo's chin.
Thank You for your help!

Interesting!!

Might be a planchet flaw - looks like possible peeling of a layer of the base metal.
Rest in Peace

It looks like it might be a retained lamination error. It appears to have lifted the I of FIVE.

Handle with care!

We need a larger and better focused image to make a reasonable opinion.

A better picture of that area in question will be helpful. May be a lamination problem but what''s going on between the I and the V is hard to see/tell

@BBL, first welcome to CCF. Second, you have an interesting coin there. I hope that you are able to post a better pic of that area so that we can figure out if it is a die crack, lamination, or scratch.

Could it be a retained piece of metal? Need better pics, enlarged. Also looks like the metal got "squished" between the I & V and popped up.

It heavily resembles a lamination flaw. It is not a scratch or a die crack, that much I can tell.

Better pics would be appreciated.
