1881H, Clue, take a look at all the letters closely.

I guess its just me but the only "dollar" coin that I've seen on a consistent basis get this dark sometimes almost black is... I guess upon further thought it was a little vague

On the large cent, Hound Dog appears to have nailed it. At first glimpse, it looks like an 1876 Obv 1, but the O in Vicky is open at the bottom. If I remember correctly, the bottom of O on the hub broke off when they were using it to strike 1881's. I'll say 1881 Obv 1. It can't be a 2/1 because the neck truncation is at the bead directly above the C in Canada ... any strike with an Obv 2 die would put it further to the left .. and the crown tip doesn't impinge on the bead where an Obv 2 would.

You've got it phil310, that makes it an Obv. 1.

Since, I think, one of your aims in this exercise is to throws curves, I'll go with 1886 Obv 1a. You wouldn't have put up this grade of coin for an '82 or '84, so 1886 it is.

I agree with Bill on 1886 Obv. 1a. I go by the "N" in Regina on these as the bottom serif is just a tad longer then others.
Cheers, Bill

My computer screen and software don't let me magnify anything, to I don't see anything that says something other than 1882 Obv 1a. The T in Gratia looks funky, but it's not any variety that I ever spent time looking for. There's minor doubling in Regina.
