Recently completed this small set. https://www.PCGS.com/SetRegistry/ca...meset/165322The final coin was the 1908 specimen. Minted in the first year of the Ottawa Mint, these are relatively common. As many as 1,000 were minted, but are they tough to find in higher grades. I think most fared poorly in the felt lined boxes that Ottawa sold them in. This one was in an ICCS holder at SP-66 Red. It is now in a PCGS holder at SP-65RB, the only 1908 specimen cent that PCGS has graded higher than 64. I was hoping for 66RB from PCGS, but I suspect they thought the eye appeal was lacking a bit. The surfaces are nearly perfect. Click on the picture to enlarge it. https://www.PCGS.com/cert/35283541

The next step is a talk I am giving at the RCNA educational symposium in Mississauga in August. The working title is "Canada Large Cents; Patterns, Trial Pieces, & Other Specimen Strikes." Hope to see some CCF members there.

Sigh... and I'll be swatting hordes of mosquitoes in the Northwest Territories at about that time... have never been able to attend a RCNA yet...
