...but it looks like the mint has released some 2017 half dollars into the wild. Just opened a Loomis sealed box to see 50 solid rolls of 2017Ds staring back at me. After opening the ones with double reverse enders, I wouldn't consider many of them to be of the BU variety. Probably most of them are in the MS60-64 range. Do any of you fine folks have any experience selling NIFCs, particularly in bulk? I see them on ebay for about $20 a roll, which comes out to about $15 after shipping and fees. That would be great if I could sell them all at once, but I can't really afford to have that amount of money tied up for very long right now... Any thoughts? Edited by Meraxes 02/27/2018 11:24 pm

Wow, that's very interesting indeed! I beleive that the reverse of the 2017 Kennedy half dollar's were minted with the reverse of the original 1964 reverse and also in a business or circulation strike but not intended for circulation! As far as selling them, I have never sold any of my coins so I cannot give you advice on doing so. Be patient as I'm sure there are folks here the will be able to point you in the right direction! Nice score by the way I have never heard of that happening before. I will say of the obverse and reverse if possible as I'm sure everyone will wan to see

I suspect that it was not a Mint mixup, but a dealer who bought in bulk looking for high grades and released the "culls" back into circulation in one fell swoop. Still, it's an above average score for you at face value. Edit: get some boxes about the same time next year and see if there are solid 2018 rolls.

Yeah, that's possible. Someone suggested to me that the mint released them due to low sales to collectors, which would make sense too.

These coins have not come directly from the mint of course, but re-rolled by Loomis and distributed. $5/roll profit on ebay? Why not.

Dealer bought a bag, kept the gems, dumped the rest. Profit on the gems more than make up the premium paid for the dumped half dollars.

Yeah, ebay is probably my best bet. I listed them in 1, 2, and 4 roll quantities. Posted a listing on Craigslist too, for the heck of it. I have one other question though. Is there any value to keeping them in the Loomis rolls? I've had one potential buyer remark that they're concerned they may not be solid 2017Ds, so I'm wondering if I'm better off opening them all and using plastic tubes instead. That would also allow me to scrutinize them all for the small chance at a gem or error.

Maybe, but that is additional time and expense on your part. You would be well justified to raise the asking price.
