I'm using a Nikon Coolpix A300. The lamps have 60 watt bulbs. The backdrop is a white cardboard presentation board. My images seem flat. I can't capture the coin's luster. I would appreciate your advice.

Put a milk jug piece or a bit of white cloth between the lamp and the coin, and direct the lamp more toward the coin. Diffused light, rather than light directed away, is the key. If you're using floods, rather than spots, that's good. Your bulb temperature should be about 4000 Kelvin to 5700 Kelvin, or the Cool White to Daylight range. LED bulbs will save you a little bit of electricity, but standard bulbs will work just fine.

Nice little set-up, looks simple and effective.

Better? I placed the coin closer to the lenses and taped a paper towel over the front of the lamps. Any other suggestions for improvement?

The camera is over-exposing the image. Can you find an app that will allow you to adjust camera parameters?

I prefer to use a mid grey background and raise the item away an inch or more so that the background is out of focus, this was sat on a 10mm engineering socket.

for any post processing I use GIMP ( a very powerful and open source image manipulation program ) as well as to crop, resize and insert a copyright mark I use a smart tool that adjusts the colour levels, by telling it that the background is mid grey it adjusts the rest to suit. Best of all it is free to download https://www.gimp.org/
