Hello everyone. I have only recently in the past few months become increasingly interested in coin hunting for errors and rarities and happened to catch something that I thought might be an actual error as opposed to machine or die wear. Any help would be much appreciated. It is on the reverse of the quarter in the triangle shaped area where the water should be to the left of the flag and right of the boy up to the bottom of the building. I compared it to another one and one is uniformly filled with ripples in the water and the other only has a few. There is also an area that extends above the water line to the right of the guy that is discolored for he lack of a better word and it seems like it is corrilated to the water issue. It is actually really shiny as opposed to the somewhat matte finish of the rest of the country. That's again.

to CCF. Nice photos and a great description. Looks to me as a Grease Filled Die and or an over polished die error. Not worth much if any premium, but a coin to add to your collection.Hope you stick around and enjoy our great site.

@Waynoah83, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @john1 that the missing detail is most likely due to grease in the die or die polishing. This would most likely be unrelated to the surface staining or texture that you are seeing.

ATB (America-The-Beautiful) Ellis Island quarter. I don't see any hub doubling on that area. Just some weakness as mentioned by a slight amount of grease that was in that device on the die.
