@BTB, first welcome to CCF. Second, while knowing the weight is useful, having pictures of the front and back of your coin would really help too.

In the meanwhile, here is a potentially relevant prior CCF thread, even if it doesn't address your question specifically:

Pics would be very helpful. Also, check to see if it is magnetic.

Quote from Coincraft's 1998 Standard Catalogue of English and U.K. coins, (page 432) re 1887 Two Pound coins:

"A large number of forgeries exist, especially of the 1887 coin. Many are of poor quality and 'wear' differently from genuine coins, especially around the head and breast of St. George. However, many of the fakes are very difficult to detect. Because of the prevalence of these 'restrikes', as some dealers like to call them, it is probably advisable to look for coins in about very fine condition with a genuinely old appearance.

As with the Five Pound pieces, care must be taken not to confuse proofs with early strikings. The rims and milling of genuine proofs should be examined whenever so that one becomes familiar with their appearance."

If you don't have that experience (I don't), it is best to rely on a professional who does.

Make sure that the guy who are taking the coin to has the specialist knowledge required, or you know for sure that the guy who actually slabs it has the specialist knowledge.
