I know its not in good shape and I know what the odds are of it actually being what it looks like to me so I would like a different set of eyes to tell me what you see.

that is a spender. Does it stick to a magnet? because it looks like a rusted 1943-D Steel Cent.

I think if it were a 43 Copper, even in that condition it would have mattered.

I see a very rusted environmentally dug up coin of most likely steel based content with the zinc coating long since worn off, a semblance of a D mintmark and the shape of a 1943 worn date that will 100% guaranteed be attracted to a magnet. Sounds like a good candidate for a replating...

IF it were a 1943 Copper, I doubt any of the third part grading services would authenticate it. It would be nearly impossible to know if it were genuine or a counterfeit.

It looks like a 1943 but doesn't look like metal so my other guess is a 44 or 42.
