 to the Community. You now have your first One! What you have is a weak strike , due to a filled die on the L,I, and 98. and your T is due to a Late Die State, worn die. Keep the search going, you are on the right track and have a good eye  |

Yes I agree with @chase007, that your coin most likely had a partially grease-filled die when struck. Nicely done! "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

Looks like grease mold on that area. But not much on the Err-ref.com site about this for images? http://www.error-ref.com/?s=grease+moldNot sure if that is what it is or not? Message from Mike Diamond on this coin: Quote:

It's a grease strike. Beyond that, I can't say. I can't really tell if there's a second, enlarged 8 to the right of the normal 8. If there is, it would be a case of grease-mold doubling. Grease-mold doubling is known only from Lincoln cents from 1995 - 1999, so this coin would fall within that interval.

I have the mate to this coin. Except my 1998, the 1998 is barley visible, the "Li" is completely gone and "In" is gone. Wish I could post photos
