Hello all. I noticed the American Numismatic Association requires an annual fee to become part of the club. Can anyone who might be a member or a former member share with us if it's worth paying for? I'd like to think I can get the same information here and other places for free.

There are many reasons to join the ANA, including the monthly magazine, discount coin show tickets, access to the library, free membership in NGC grading services, and many others. But the biggest reason is to support the hobby and show you are proud to be a collector.

I'm with you Coinfrog. I do not use most of the benefits of being a member but I happily support the hobby.

The Numismatist is the finest coin magazine produced. What you can learn from that alone is worth the price.
You get a ton of discounts from different companies and I usually save about twice what membership costs every year.

I just joined last week. I haven't received the magazines yet, but the website and other benefits seem amazing to me. Let alone the numerous articles in the digital library. Plus, I got half off a platinum membership too!

All, I joined this year and definitely worth it. Their magazine, the "Numismatist" is good, and you can also get a big discount on a subscription to " CoinWorld" magazine. Access to all their online resources, free access to shows, etc. Here is a link to a brochure with all their benefits: https://www.money.org/uploads/join/...de%20web.pdfAnd also agree about "supporting the hobby". Just to offer an alternative viewpoint. I am not a member but I had been up until about 5-6 years ago. I stopped my membership because I didn't see the value in it for myself. The magazine was ok but I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. I have been thinking of joining again for the discounts they offer to insure your collection and to take advantage of the library.

My subscription unfortunately ran out a couple months ago. This is a nice publication, and I've learned a lot from it.
It was also nice to get a slabbed MS69 silver American Eagle for free when I joined. :)

The only real reason I see to join at the moment would be side benefits. I really haven't been impressed with their direction the last few years.

I was a previous member but dropped it when they had the issues with the executive director and the finances. May up again...we'll see.

And if you like the magazine, you also have access to the past 125 years worth of issues on line. That's over 1,440 back issues.

I'm not a member and so far have not missed anything that I know of anyway. Almost any of the info is available somewhere on the internet free so as long as I'm paying for the internet, good enough for me.

While it's true that most of the info in the magazine is available for free somewhere on the 'net, I appreciate having it delivered to me on a regular basis. There's a bunch of stuff I wouldn't have known or thought to look for, and being presented with unexpected material seems like a good way to expand my view of the hobby beyond those few things I collect and what we discuss here. Eventually I'll probably feel like I'm not getting that benefit anymore but it's not that expensive and there are side benefits I might take advantage of someday. Oh, and I bought a cool poster for my home office from an ad in the magazine. Honestly, it's the first time I've bought anything from an ad -- online, print or otherwise -- in decades.
