From 1793-1991 there was very nearly no time periods where we did not have a Chief Engraver for the US Mint. Since John Mercanti retired the position has remained vacant. I've heard rumors of a new Silver Eagle design...could this mean they might finally appoint the 13th Chief Engraver?
I'm thinking there will never be one again. Some young pimple faced kid that can program a CNC engraving machine is what will be happening from now on!
Yeah. Technology is eliminating/changing lots of jobs. Just wait. I think we're just seeing the tip of the ice burg. I remember watching a show on tv some years ago about how coins are made. I wonder how much of that process I saw then still applies now.
