Not sure, but it sounds like a good logical explanation. We'll see what the other members think.

The class 2 Doubled dies affect more of the outer edges of the devices:

I see, Thank you Coop. So what do you think is going on with bert? It seems to be going toward the center of the design. Would that be die wear on a concave die?

Here is a normal nickel on that area:

You might post that image again down here and see how they compare in size of devices. (mine is 1240 pixels wide counting the border)

Dooh! Just figured that one out. Well looking again at the dime, the area you are seeing marks are on the field. Nothing is added to the devices. So its not hub doubling. Wexler has nothing listed on the dime for an obverse doubled die.But it is not connected. It is one the wrong side of the devices to be Die Deterioration Doubling. The mark to the left of the 'E' on the outside maybe a contact mark. It doesn't appear as planchet damage, but it matches the shape of the hub. (but not exactly) It is not part of a clash:

All I can do is to tell you what it isn't. But so far, not what it is?

That's fair enough Coop. I appreciate your time on it. I'll hang on to it for now.
