I could either melt it or just sell it for the gold weight, but I feel than this medal is an important but freak sample of some sort made by the mint in the series that never made it to production. I will hang onto it until I or someone else has figured it out. It would be a shame to destroy a thing of history, of which I am absolutely convinced that it is. However, I fear that since it is such a limited piece that it may be impossible to identify. With all the confusion, and more than confusion, it is plausible to me anyways that this medal somehow fits in, altho there may be few people alive today who can do so. This is just my opinion based on exhaustive research and facts.

Just send it to ANACS. I have a dealer that will get 15 day service for $10.

Thanks coin197, I do plan to send it to ANACS but was trying to get it identified it here first as NGC was unable to identify it and am not hopeful ANACS would have better luck, but who knows, they might. However, if you want to send me the information regarding your dealer, I will go through them... thanks again ... mike

for even MORE fun, here is an example of a 1958 medal, which is on the obverse side, has a completely different likeness of hitler... minus the swastika on the collar, etc. unfortunately, the seller did not include a picture of the reverse. I emailed them to see if they could send me or put in the listing a picture of the reverse. this medal is clearly within the "chiefs in the second war" era and listings, but not as detailed as the "regular" series had. I have a difficult time in believing that an auction house would not put the reverse of the medal in the listing, but as time wears on I stopped believing in the competence of "experienced" sellers. Even a 14 year old would know that to see both sides of the medal is important. This is all too relevant to see when one pays over $1,000 for a single medal/coin.

here is my 1959 example...

In the meantime, I ordered several vintage used catalogs of unusual gold medals, hoping that my medal is in there, but I am not overly optimistic about it... mike
