I found something interesting going on around the edge of this 1981 S. Korea 5th Republic commemorative 100 won. From a certain point on the middle of the edge, a "crack" continues well into the rim of the coin. This seems to have happened most certainly during the minting process as I've never seen PMD appear like this coin, if it happens to be PMD after all. All opinions would be appreciated. Thanks! I would venture to say PMD.

Please help me understand what could cause PMD like that. It looks to me like a split planchet, but I'm still learning.
Rest in Peace

Nfine, it was caused by a sharp edged object, knife blade-like. It is highly unlikel for it to be machining or die error, only thing it could be is a struck through of a fibrous material to have transversed the angles involved along the die and strike chamber. If you were to look straight on, not angled like your pix, you would see a very slight rise of metal on either or both sides of the cut, the metal is moved that way in PMD. In a strikethru, metal is compressed evenly around the recessed( pushed into) object, so no metal height is encountered. Hope that makes cents!

I get it now. Thank you for taking the time to explain what most likely happened to this coin. As I mentioned, I'm just now learning how to determine PMD from something that may have happened in the manufacturing process.
