Ok I think I hit the jackpot! Could this really be rotated hub doubling. I found this in a 25 dollar box of pennies, WOW!! If you look closely you can see where the memorial is rotated as well.

No, it is staining. the coin was reverse down on possible a wet paper then was rotated itself. the dirty image was then transferred CW. Hub doubling is NEVER that drastic!

I can clearly see under the microscope it's not stained, sorry but I don't have a very good way of taking close up pics.

Since it is front and back, it is highly unlikely to be a doubled die. Double-struck probably. A really cool find!

Your pictures are good enough and I agree there are no staining effects on this one!

I don't know, but if I had to guess I'd say maybe a Rotated Clash?

I'd say send it to someone (Hint, Hint) and let him look at it in hand!

After checking around, and seeing what I think is an additional ridge around the rim, it just may be a stutter strike
Could-This-Really-Be-A-1997-D-Lmc-Rotated-Hub-Doubling

Quote:
Multiple strikes are often hard to spot when no movement of the coin occurs between strikes. Collectors rely on a number of diagnostic clues to identify such "close multi-strikes." One such clue is the presence of concentric strike lines.

Concentric strike lines are circular or semicircular grooves or steps produced by the edge of the field portion of the die and sometimes the outer edge of the rim gutter of the die. An intermediate strike line can reflect the presence of collar clash, which occurs when the rim gutter is damaged by contact with the top of the collar. Close examination of spacing, contour and step wise elevation of the
strike lines is necessary to distinguish those created by multiple strikes from
those that simply result from contact with different parts of the die
perimeter.

I am going to contact Mike Diamond and see what he thinks of it. It could be Double Struck in Collar.

Edit: after looking at the coin again, its indeed Double Struck in its Collar. Way to go and awesome find OP!

Still lookin, that's an incredible find! It's very rare to find that error. Did you keep it in your collection or did you sell it? I've would have kept it if I found it.
