1982 Copper Small Date Lincoln Cent With Zinc Small Date Design?

Jarr99 Valued Member United States 57 Posts	Posted 03/07/2018 8:19 pm I found this Penny today it's a small date that weighs 3 grams but it has the same design as the zinc small date pennies with the real small numbers. that are close together, I wasn't sure if this was an error, or that's the way they were designed I took a picture with this coin next to a zinc Denver small date so you could get some short idea the images look big because they are zoomed in so much thanks I appreciate all help. Finn235 Pillar of the Community United States 6130 Posts	Posted 03/08/2018 12:00 am Large date dies were optimized for striking copper; small date for bronze. Philadelphia tested the small date on copper before the switch, then used up their dies of both types on zinc. Denver still had some leftover large date dies, but supposedly cleaned out all of the bronze planchets before loading the small date dies. Report this Post to the Staff
