Now that I've got the "large date" idea resolved, I can deal with a much more realistic topic.

I have searched about a hundred different sites with pictures of an 1847 o, and only 3 pictures of coins with drapery came up (A $30,000 price tag also came up). Whats up with this?

And the three coins I found had no where near the quality of the drapery I do.

I'm also prepared with a picture.

jello, I am not sure I am following your question? I have just looked at ebay and Heritage open and closed auctions and 98%+ of them have drapery. Some might be really faint but all are there. Can you provide some images of ones you are seeing that do not have drapery? and also add some of the ones with images of the ones with the $30,000 price tag?

The drapery should appear on this date of half dollars if it is weak OR missing the reason is explained by "excessive die polishing" (Bugert's words).

I am fairly new to the world of Seated halves and determining which die pair struck a coin. However this link will be useful http://lsccweb.org/BillBugertBooks/...ertBooks.php

The $30,000 half dollar is graded MS-66 by NGC and received a "green bean" from CAC. From the description it is tied with one other for finest known https://coins.ha.com/itm/seated-hal...ption-071515

Most likely the person buying the MS-66 coin isn't concerned about drapery, or lack of rather his or her focus is solely on the grade.

Drapery is not an issue on this coin that I know of.

with Meadowview and Coinfrog, there is nothing special about the drapery, it is either worn down or from die polishing. The $30,000 coin has nothing to do with the drapery but is entirely for the grade. Each picture from the links you provided has drapery, there is just a little left of it.

This an old picture of an 1847 O SLH. The drapery is weak, but it's definitely there.

I have a newer example that I don't have a current picture of. The drapery is weak, but still there.
