Here is my "suntanned" Morgan dollar, minted in New Orleans. I looked amongst a number of these handsome silver dollars at the local coin shop, and this one really stood out and "spoke" to me. It joins the pantheon of my "beautiful" coins in that part of my album... Squire *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

I split your post out to its own topic. It would probably get lost on that older thread.

Congrats, bro! Nice coin! But may I make a suggestion? If you broaden your horizons to include auction sites like Great Collections and Heritage, you might find an even better selection of Morgans that blow your mind.

I agree with MikeF. This coin has pleasant original tone but in the universe of toned dollars it's pretty subtle. It shouldn't command much of a premium based on color. I may not be willing to pay the going rate for intense "monster" toned Morgans but I sure do appreciate them!

It's a nice coin, but the toning won't increase the value that much. with MikeF and Jaobler: Try searching on Great Collections/Heritage/Stack's Bowers/eBay for a great selection of coins. For example, here's one I picked up. It's not a spectacular specimen, but it has a good amount of toning:

Thanks for moving my post to a new topic Fuzzy317 Looks like this resulted in an "avalanche" of responses by Coin Community Forum members I have always been impressed by the "majestic" design of the Morgan dollar. Thanks to MikeF and SilverDollar2017 for the helpful hints and showing the "well suntanned Lady Liberty" on that 1878 Morgan dollar. I believe it was minted in San Francisco. Maybe I will start a collection of these gorgeous coins. Coins minted in Carson City might be interesting to collect also. That place has quite a reputation.. Squire

Very nice coin! That cheek is incredibly clean. Did you pay more than $35? I had a similar coin, and it graded MS 65 for me.

Thanks twotonevf35 and Debrajc I paid $30 Australian for my "lightly suntanned Lady Liberty", coin197. That is about $23.50 US. But I think it is worth every cent. A real "beauty"... Squire

That's a great deal on a pretty Morgan, Squire Wilson. Toned CC's will cost you, though.
SilverDollar2017, great Morgan with 100% toning (which aren't easy to find).

Thanks for the web link John1. Some of the toning looks "unearthly" What is a reasonable price for a Carson City Morgan dollar ron6788? Thanks for the kind welcome nickelsearcher Squire

You got a good deal for $23.50! Quote:What is a reasonable price for a Carson City Morgan dollar ron6788? It depends on the date and condition. Some of the more common CC dates are the 1882-CC, 83-CC, and 84-CC, and some of the rarer dates are the 1879-CC and 1889-CC. Try looking up the sold prices on ebay for certified CC Morgan dollars to get a good idea of the value.
