Good evening. I am working on a box of coins received a week ago from a dealer purchase and ran across this interesting little piece I cannot seem to locate any information about. Can anyone here help me identify and value this little guy?

Hey Chuck, welcome back. Is it porcelain by chance? I picked up a Notgeld copied Austria Ducat that was from the German state of Ulm...

Don't know if it would match a like type or not, I'll look tho.

This is what it's copying:

Pattern stamp since the US was making the coins for our protectorate?

Interesting piece! I checked the Krause 19th century book for Liberian coins and the design matches the obverse of the 1847 ten cent piece, but all coins listed are the normal round, double-sided type, so I'm not sure what to make of this one. I'm wondering if this is some kind of a trial strike or a souvenir piece.

This piece appears to be copper or bronze. It's definitely metal. Being that it is uniface and rather crude in cut and design, I would go with pattern or die trial but have no idea what to identify it as or where its value lies.

I saw on the numista listing that there were pattern dollars. I wonder if you were to contact Numista or even the Soho mint(Birmingham Eng.) and see if there is any info on Liberian pattern cents. It was not to be an issued 10 cent coin anyway in 1847, that was Liberia's independence.

Hello, I'm researching the 19th century Liberian coinage, and I would love to examine this coin. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the original poster?

Charles has not posted here in a while, but he has his own website (coppercoins.com) if you want to try him there.

I don't think Chuck is actively maintaining his website any more, either, though may still be replying to e-mails. He literally hasn't been on the forum since making the posts in this very thread, back in 2018.
