Hello everyone,
Like the title says, I'm a Florida coin collector. I am going to tell you about myself in the form of a Q&A.
Q: What coins do you collect?
A: I collect
Three Cent Nickels, half dollars, world coins, Sacagawea and
Native American dollars, and ancient coins.
Q: When did you start collecting?
A: I seriously started about a year ago when a friend of mine talked about how she was collecting coins and I thought I would do the same to have something relatable. I had been doing it when I was little but I didn't take it seriously and I feel like I missed out on some of the best coins like the sliver
State Quarters, the gold
Kennedy half, gold murcery dime, and the Sacagawea series before 2009 and the Native American series before 20017.
Q: How do you collect?
A: I mainly buy my coins from my local coin shop for my
Three Cent Nickels and the
Sacagawea dollars. I also buy the silver proof sets and the half dollars from the mint and have subscribed to them to get each series every year. I also go to coin shows like the F.U.N. shows.
Q: Do you like to coin roll hunt?
A: This a tuff question to answer. I don't like people who search rolls to find broken or imperfect coins to showcase the failures of the mint. However, I do like the idea of finding other coins in a boxes of rolls like Indian head pennies in Lincoln pennies or Canadian coins. I'm hoping I can get a box of pennies soon and try my hand in coin roll hunting.
Q: You mentioned you collect
Three Cent Nickels. Why did you want to collect this unpopular series?
A: I have no idea how I even found out about the
Three Cent coins. I guess I must have walked into my coin shop and saw them and decided to start collecting. I think the fact that it is an unpopular series the prices for them should not go up tremendously and I should be able to collect them all.
Q:Why ancient coins?
A; The reason for collecting ancient coin is for two reasons, the history and the designs. When a lot of us talk about coins, we don't talk about the history behind the coin rather than the coin's history itself. White ancient coins, you have history in your hands. You get to learn about that time period, where the coin was made, why the choices the design, what was going on there, the politics, the ruler and other things. My favorite ancient coins are the biblical ones for the biblical history behind them.
Q: if you had an unlimited amount of money, what would you collect?
A: I would probably keep collecting ancient biblical coins possibly the double eagle and the French angel coins.
Q: Thoighs on PGCS and NGC
A: I think coin companies like these should only be for authentication and protection. The idea of these companies grading makes it two fold. It's great to brag about a coin you have that may be BU, but because of the grading system, you now have a coin that may have cost a certain amount ten years ago to suddenly going for three times the amount.
Q: Before we go, is there anything else you want to tell use about yourself?
A: I am also a musician who primary plays steel drum, percussion and drum kit. I play in a steel ensemble called Sunshine Steel Band and do solo gigs in the Bay Area. I have played many times as a solo performer. Check out Island Soul Productions.
