Poll Question
I hope I am doing this poll correctly, this is my first time doing a poll.

The question is:

What is the ratio of boxes searched per Franklin or Walking Liberty found?

Please do not answer if you have not done at least 100 boxes over the last couple years. I am interested in getting numbers from mass half box searchers. This poll is for boxes only, NOT CUSTOMER WRAPPED ROLLS!

Apparently you cannot see the results unless you vote. So if you have not done very many boxes, but want to see the results, please do not vote. I will update the results in the comments so people can see without voting.

Personally My son and I have done about 30 boxes over the last 3 months and have only found Kennedy's, So I will not answer the poll. I am really hoping my Son and I will find one for the sake of my son's childhood memories.

Thanks and Enjoy!

I actually voted even though I said I wouldn't. I had to vote to see the results.

My fake vote was 60.

So far we have two votes:
Every 10 boxes= 1 vote
Every 100 boxes= 1 vote

I'll update the results so people that have not done very many boxes can see the results.

Here are the Results of the poll so far:
(The vote for 60 boxes is my fake vote)
Also I'd love to hear any comments of those who voted. How many boxes have you done approximately? Do you find more Franklin's or Liberty's? What's the typical box that has a Franklin/Liberty look like?(just one or a large collection dump box)

Thanks for all that are contributing!

The reason why you don't have many votes is because the answer to your question is: ''only the lord knows'' ! you can find a Franklin or WLH in just one box or you can go through 30 boxes-50 boxes and not find any . It's a hit or miss thing .

Depending on the box, you could get a Franklin and/or a Walker on your first try.

Off topic: I find an IHC about every 70,000-100,000 cents, and a V nickel about every 70,000-100,000 nickels.

As someone who played online poker profitably for several years, I understand variance. A bad poker player can "be a winner" for tens of thousands of hands.

I understand that a small percentage of boxes have the rare coins. However someone could hit 3 nice boxes in a row, that's variance. I understand it's hit or miss. But if even just 10 people who have done 100 boxes answer the question, that lowers the variance some. Right now I'm just working with my personal experience of 30ish boxes, so getting an idea of what others have experienced helps understand a little more of the odds. If ten people answer honestly, I can get a better idea of what 1,000 boxes may produce on average. I know 1000 boxes is still a drop in the bucket, but its a larger drop then my 30 boxes are.

Plus its fun :) Cheers

I didn't vote. My first box I ever did had a Franklin. Was my best box ever. However the bank refused to order any more for me. Switched banks & the boxes from this bank were horrible. Just stuck with customer wrapped rolls after that.

Wow awesome! I'm guessing you have had a couple really big hits!!?

Also how long have you been doing it? Do you have a standing order at a bank?

Thanks for the reply

Yeh, been hunting halves since fall 2014. Had plenty of dry streaks, and some impressive silver windfalls as well. Ending up with the average Ive reported :D

And yes, standing orders for years now. Only way to roll.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are these "boxes" you're referring to? How many halves in a box? I always assume when you come across a valuable coin in change or roll searches it means some kid just stole some coins from his dad's coin collection.

How many boxes are your standing order?
Do you use just one bank?

Right now I have a standing order for 2 boxes a week at a bank I have a great relationship with. I'd like to increase it to 4 boxes a week, but I dump at this bank also....
