Thanks for all your thoughts on my last couple posts.

Here's a recent acquisition that I'd love your thoughts on:

(It has some remaining luster in the legend, I don't think its been dipped because there is no evidence of surface disruption or pitting under the loupe).

Note: the reverse is not yellow, just bad light.

I love the odd or discontinued denominations. The Canada 20 cent is definitely on my bucket list of coins to add to my collection.

The 1894 20 cent NF coin had two obverses, yours is obverse number 2, the slightly higher valued of the two. The condition isn't great but still ok. I would grade it VF and a book value of $70.

What did you get it for...

You might get VF30 on this one, though the Obverse looks even better than that to me.

The Reverse does have a bit of pitting. There doesn't appear to be any dirt or toning which would make some people wonder if it might have had an old cleaning. Sometimes its hard to take photos in the right light and capture the luster. I have an 1882 Twenty Cent that I posted on this site, all the while with people commenting that the coin must have been cleaned etc when I know the coin is shining brilliantly with luster and I just couldn't capture it in the photos. Nice find!

VF-20. ICCS is brutally tough on NFLD coins.

Agree, VF-20. Obverse perhaps once cleaned.

Update: I just got this one back from ICCS and here's what they thought.

Looking back, I can see how bad my March photos were (taken by a cell is artificial light at an angle). There is no pitting on the reverse, but the light/angle made the small circulation scratches look like pitting.
