I have a 1999 P dime but it is gold color. Also, the "C" on the back looks off. Any thoughts?

It's probably a gold-plated novelty piece. What about the "C" on the back looks wrong?

Probably? Of course it is - probably someone took it out of a bezel and thought "I can sell this on ebay!
Rest in Peace

You can even tell that it's not good plating.

Worth a dime.

@kd32, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes this coin was plated after it left the mint. The amount of gold is insignificant though, and while it looks expensive because of the color, it is only worth ten cents.

A gf that supports your coin habit is the best type! Hope to see more posts from coins that she brings home.

An altered coin is one that a collector doesn't want. They are not an original finish coin. The better it looks in BU/proof the more desirable they are to a collector. People who are not collectors buy coins that have been plated and think they really found a mint error. They don't realize it until they go to sell it.
