No real premium over face value but a lot of fun to find Definition- quoted from Cuds on coins "Die Chips. Definition: A small piece (less than 4 square millimeters) that falls out of the die face and has no direct connection to the design rim. With this type of die damage, the post in the center of the number 9 broke off, allowing the metal to flow in and fill up what should be an empty space. No extra numismatic value, but a very nice example--and the price was right. I'm starting in coin roll hunting this was my first after three weeks of searching. Any advice you can give on the subject is appreciated. Are there collectors that collect these. Since the number 9 is open, there actually isn't a "post" on the die. Best to call it a die chip just like @toot said originally. Your example is a nice one, but I'm doubtful that there is much numismatic value from the die chip.
