I came across this today and remembered reading about this particular error or possibly a different one in the same area. I can't remember where I read about it and I couldn't find any other info on what it is if anything. It's on the 2016 Cumberland Gap, Kentucky America the Beautiful Quarter featuring a pioneer on the reverse holding a backwards facing rifle. The issue is located around the 4 o'clock position right next to the powder horn that the guy is wearing around his waste. The area in question is raised and looks like a possible die chip or crack. I didn't think it was a Cud because they usually occur closer to the edge of the coin as I recall. any help in what exactly it is would be much appreciated as always.

Still in the die crack/chip stage when your coin was struck. It probably did progress and got worse.

On the ATB Quarter doubled die subject, the DDRs for these dies are more often found in a central location for these dies.

I know it wasn't DDR. I read a couple of your other posts on the topic so needless to say I'm well informed on that subject
