Reverse Shields cent DDRs. Single squeeze die cents. What to look for on these?
This is going to be another large thread. This one is for the reverses. We will first start out with the designers initials and see what to look for. Keep in mint that the EPU devices are incuse. So I will add some of my information to this thread to help cover that subject. It seems like many are still looking for notching on the devices. I'm not seeing that happening on the reverses that much. Many are finding
Machine Doubling a lot because they are looking next to the devices
too closely. The thing is that these devices are showing a lot of distortion by enlargement of the devices when you compare them with normal die examples. I'll cover that in a separate section later. So take you time on these. You will realize that they are much easier to find when you know where to look for on these.
LB:

There are several of these listed as doubled dies. So these initials are the first area to check for a doubled die.
JFM:

On this area, remember the EPU devices are incuse. So if these devices are enlarged in size, they
are not doubled dies. They are
Machine Doubling. On the hub doubled examples of these doubled dies, they are reduced in size. Just the opposite as the raised devices? Why?
Because the raised devices are incuse (sunk into) the die. After the strike, any die movement of the dies will reduce the normal size of these devices. But on the incuse devices, the opposite happens.
The incuse devices on the coins mean theses devices will be raised on the die. So any movement before or after the strike can enlarge these devices. This is called
Machine Doubling on incuse devices.
on the ATB Quarters the percentage of this happening is over 70% of the time. So these are very common to find. The range from minor to strong. But they are not doubled dies. But on the these incuse devices on the EPU, look should be smaller that normal devices. These are harder to find. Just a few dies have them on them. The 2011 and 2013 are so far the only ones known to find them. Both are from Philadelphia. So be on the look out for these.

The doubling on the USA is also rare. It is often the same dies that have the EPU as reduced devices, but not always. (2015 not noted)

On these note the extra width of these devices.ONE:

These are harder to spot, you almost have to look at a side by side to tell what is going on with them. But again on the two dies know for having these,
they are the same one as the EPU devices that are reduced in size.On these note the extra width of these devices.CENT:

This is a new listing and new find for these. So keep looking in this area for more of the same hub doubling.

Hope this helps with a head up on what to look for, and what not to expect. There will always be
Machine Doubling, even on doubled dies. But don't give up. Well figure this out together. Hang in there!
